SEASON II

NOTE: This show had such promise and the first season, though filled with many flaws, captured a part of Memphis music history that those who lived during those tumultuous times of the 1960s found to be so exciting and romantic. Sadly, the second season abruptly departed from what the first season promised, and the show just fizzled out, leaving many of us sad for "what might have been".  You can experience a few of the songs which the character "Dwight" sang at the end of each of the first season's episodes, and a couple in Season II, at the links below.

It's official!  TNT announced today that its hit summer show has been officially renewed for a Season Two, scheduled for the summer of 2011.  Fans of the show would like more episodes and an earlier airing, but, for now, anyway, the suspense is over, and Dwight and Company will return!

All of these vocals, unless otherwise noted, are performed by "Dwight Hendricks" (Jason Lee), with vocals by Mark Arnell and his i94 band.  Check Mark out on YouTube, Facebook, or MySpace.

SEASON I

Episode titles for this show were taken from Elvis songs.  As most people are aware, Elvis "covered" many songs by other artists, besides performing original renditions for songs written for or by him.

From Episode 1, Memphis Beat, "It's Alright, Mama"
Dwight Hendricks (Jason Lee) performs the Elvis Presley classic, with vocals by Mark Arnell.

From Episode 3, "Love Her Tender".  In the video, the song is the back drop for some scenes from this episode, including Dwight trying to apologize to his ex-wife (Dwight is a "Mr. Fixit"), as well as a scene where Abraham Benrubi's character, Officer JC Lightfoot, has to arrest his wife for spousal abuse (she stabbed him, among other things!)

Episode 4:  "Polk Salad Annie".  This is the Memphis barbecue episode!  Can't have a show about Memphis and not talk about the barbcue!  Video includes an exchange with Lt. Rice (Alfre Woodard), whose son was arrested for a prank during the festival.  As usual, Dwight has to jump in when he thinks an injustice is being done.  These two settle in to a much easier relationship as the show progresses, but early on, the clashes were interesting to watch!
My favorite show image is the "Boob Lamp"!
From Episode 5: “One Night of Sin” Song: “One Night of Sin”. Dwight’s voice double is Mark Arnell. Duet is with “Delilah Boswell” (Jackie Tohn, winner of one of the music reality competitions) - Caution:  You may need to log in to your Facebook account for this one.

Episode 6:  "Run On".  Episode finale shows Dwight giving the injured boxer a memento.  Dwight performs with a local church gospel group the Elvis show title song.

From Episode 7, Dwight performs the title song at the end of the episode.

Episode 8, "I Shall Not Be Moved", this is a song the character, Leroy Hitch (Clarence Williams, III) performs, with Keb Mo providing the vocals for Leroy.  Leroy was wrongfully accused in the death of his lover 40+ years ago.  This is a song he had written for her, prior to her death.

From episode 8, "I Shall Not Be Moved" title song includes vocals by Mark Arnell for Dwight (Jason Lee), and Keb Mo for Leroy Hitch (Clarence Williams, III)

Episode 9:  "Don't Be So Cruel" - A city councilman's aide mysteriously disappears on the day he is to wed the councilman's daughter.

Episode 10, "I Want To Be Free", season finale.  Dwight has solved a 3-year-old case about the death of a little girl.  Needless to say, Dwight is gratified to be able to "close" this one.  Also in the video, the guys and gals are looking at the official men of Memphis Beat calendar.

Also from season finale, this performance by Dwight is part of a dream sequence that opens Episode 10.  Includes an appearance by Jerry Schilling, Elvis' life-long friend.
